International journal of embedded software and open source systemsSummary: Paper discusses the method of expansion planning using contingency analysis.The Nigerian south -east network is taken as a case study.the power supply in Nigeria for some time now has been grossly inadequate. many factories have closed down as a result of frustration in power supply.recently,the federal government broke the monopoly of the power supply company, the PHCN so that private individuals can participate in the power supply.now the federal government has introduced an aggressive programme towards improving the power supply of the country. this paper studies the expansion programme with the view of finding alternate /new transmission lines and generating stations to improve the stability and adequacy of the power supply.
